The left and right panels are 1H-15N HSQC spectra of an 89-residue protein, where the spectrum on the right was taken after the sample had been allowed to exchange with D2O for one hour. The signals from residues 30 and 31 have disappeared due to H/D exchange, showing that this section of the protein is exposed to the solvent.
